Why Bend It Like Beckham is still essential viewing

Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Gurinder Chadha star in Bend It Like Beckham, a British movie written and directed by Gurinder Chadha. It’s one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. It has a great cast, good ideas, and a good message. This movie is very good. So, what’s up?

When the movie turned 20 this week, many of its fans were shocked. When time moves quickly, it’s always a little weird. If the movie hasn’t changed at all, maybe this one went so well. When it first came out, I thought it was very important. Now, I think that it’s just as important now. It’s also important to see.

Simple and timeless, Bend It Like Beckham tells the story of a young woman who wants to be a football player like David Beckham, even though her parents don’t want her to. They all helped make the movie a big hit, making it a big hit. They were Keira Knightley, Parminder Nagra, Archie Panjabi, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Melanie C and Texas, Curtis Mayfield, and the best Bhangra songs ever made by Melanie C and Texas have been with me for a long time.

In Birmingham, I bought this movie on VHS for a very low price because it had a good synopsis. I don’t want to show how old I am. No need to worry, though. The VHS tape I have is on DVD instead (which probably ages me further as someone who still has DVDs). After all these years, it’s interesting how little the movie’s themes have changed. No, we haven’t made much progress. I think it’s a mix of both. I don’t know.

Because everyone in the family wants to go to medical school, her dad is worried about her.

It doesn’t matter that she’s made to feel bad and given a red card unfairly in one moment. After the game, everyone wants to help her. It was in the news last year when a former player said that he was a racist. He was kicked out of the cricket club because he didn’t like Indians. Her father, played by Anumpam Kher, was not welcome.

From 2008 to 2014, and from 2016 to 2018, he said that the club was “institutionally racist.” There were a lot of people who left the club because of what the report said. It was still going on 15 years after the movie came out. They were great as the Sharma sisters in the second season of “Bridgerton.” Even though Bend It Like Beckham came out 20 years ago, not many South Asian people are on TV.

People like Ambika Mod and Riz Ahmed make us want things to change, even if it takes a while.

There is still a long way to go before women’s football is at the same level as men’s football. When it comes to football, Mia Hamm is an all-time great, but I don’t know of any modern female players. This movie made me notice her. As long as the women’s national team has recently shown itself to be very good on the international stage, this is still true.

Jess doesn’t listen to her parents when she’s a teenager and goes out on her own to follow her dreams even though her parents don’t want to help. Disney and Pixar’s movie Turning Red made some parents angry because it made kids want to do things they didn’t want to do. I think this is still a problem that needs more attention (and its inclusion of shock horror, periods).

The movie Bend It Like Beckham, like Turning Red, puts female friendship and companionship ahead of romance, just like that movie did. Joe and Jess do end up together, despite the fact that the movie is aimed at teenagers over 18. This isn’t the movie’s main point or its ending. So far, her biggest achievement has been getting a full scholarship to go to the U.S., where she plans to go to school and play football, so she can go there. Everyone loves having Joe at the airport.
