(AP) Lille, France On Sunday, Kylian Mbappe scored after just eight seconds of action to tie for the league’s fastest goal ever.
Mbappe scored to open Sunday’s 7-1 victory for reigning champion Paris Saint-Germain over Lille.
Lionel Messi sent an excellent pass over the top for Mbappe, who skillfully lobbed Lille goalkeeper Leo Jardim to give the visitors the lead after only four passes from the opening kick.
Christophe Galtier, the PSG head coach, praised both the club’s Under-19 team and his support staff.
Neymar returned the ball after the kickoff before receiving it again and handing it to Messi, who saw Mbappe’s run and had the technical acumen to take advantage of it.
Galtier stated during a press conference that “our Under-19 team did it in the minor league versus Salzburg.” “We demonstrated it to the athletes. They were free to give it a go. We practised it in training, and tonight’s performance was excellent.
The French league stated that Mbappe’s goal ties midfielder Michel Rio, who scored for Caen against Cannes in 1992 in the same eight-second span.

French sports publication L’Equipe was more circumspect, claiming that Mbappe’s goal was closer to nine seconds and that it was the fastest goal since Rio’s. In 1932, the French league was founded.
Galtier was referring to Edouard Michut’s goal in a March youth league loss to Salzburg that ended 3-1. According to the official PSG website, it took Michut 11 seconds to score.
Additionally, the French coach mentioned Bournemouth and Rayo Vallecano as clubs that had scored goals using identical kickoff practises in the German, English, and Spanish leagues.
As PSG continued their unblemished start to the season with three victories from three games, Mbappe produced a hat trick and Neymar scored two goals and gave three assists against Lille.
