Shilpa Shetty Asks Court To Reject Plea Against Her Discharge In Richard Gere Kiss Case

Shetty has asked for the dismissal of a lawsuit that challenges the Ballard Pier, Mumbai, magistrate court’s ruling from January releasing her from an obscenity case brought about by the incident.

New Delhi: The on-stage kiss between Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty at a charitable event there in 2007 doesn’t seem to have left the Bollywood actress.

Through her attorney Prasant Patil, Shetty has asked for the dismissal of a lawsuit that challenges the Ballard Pier, Mumbai, magistrate court’s January decision to release her from an obscenity case stemming from the incident.

The Alwar, Rajasthan, police filed a complaint with the sessions court in April challenging the magistrate’s decision, arguing that Shilpa’s conduct of kissing or permitting to be kissed in a public setting constituted obscenity.

The police had said that if the court looked over the FIR, it would discover that an actress has a solid case against her.

In her response, Shetty said that the complainant had harassed her and that she had been the victim of unjust actions. She also said that as an artist, she had always behaved honourably in public. She further claimed that the complainant had come to court in an effort to gain cheap attention.

When the Hollywood celebrity kissed Shilpa, the complainant, who had gone to the Alwar police in 2007, claimed that she did not object. Shilpa responded to this accusation by asserting in her plea that it did not equate to her being a participant in or perpetrator of any crime.
